The first marketing plan was probably written the day after money was invented.

It may have even happened before that when barter was the main form of exchanging goods. After all, if you owned a cow and you wanted to barter it for some eggs, bacon and a new pair of boots you probably had to know your customer – the owner of the eggs – and what they wanted – hopefully a cow – before you could make that exchange.

Certainly, however once money was invented the exchange of goods and services for cash became at the same time a simpler and more complex proposition.  Before paper money there was gold. And you had to argue that your product or service was worth so much gold before you could exchange them. The story hasn't changed since.  Most authors agree that the discipline of marketing was first talked about using that word sometime around 1900. But for sure, the activity was going on long before that.

What springs to mind when you hear the word survey?  

Perhaps such things as "time consuming" or "expensive" and maybe even "daunting" are words you would think of.

A logo is not just something you should throw together in 30 minutes, after all – it represents your business’s brand.

Wikipedia’s definition says "A logo is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or word mark)."

If you have an iPhone or Android based device you may have come across the plethora of logo quiz’s.  For those who aren't familiar with it the goal is to correctly identify the company from their logo or part of their logo through various levels of difficulty.

Though I'm mainly thinking about fax designs as I'm writing this, the points here can be applied easily to any type of design medium.
